The Northern Star is truly blessed to have such a huge network of alumni. Many of you not only look back with fondness at your days at the Star, but also return periodically to help us train our students, to serve on our publication board ... or simply to stop by and say hello.
This year’s Hall of Fame dinner was held Feb. 25 — about two
weeks after the Star became one of about a half-dozen college newspapers
to print the controversial Danish cartoons depicting the Muslim prophet
Mohammad. Agree or disagree with that decision, you need to know how our
students exhibited professionalism, class and extraordinary courage in their
convctions — along with a willingness to take heat from around the
world for those convictions.
Some of the most telling comments in national media coverage came from editors
of a couple of other “elite” college papers who say they wish
they’d handled this the same way the Northern Star did.
Praise like that is thanks in large part to all of you who went before them at the Star and were willing to take heat for your convictions. In both your past and present, you continue to be great role models.
