Following storm, high winds expected throughout region

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) – The National Weather Service says the season's first major snowstorm across northern and central Illinois could be followed by high winds.

Meteorologist Casey Sullivan of the NWS office in Romeoville said early today that winds might gust up to 35 mph. at times before dying down by early afternoon.

As many as 5 inches of snow fell in areas around Rockford and Aurora before stopping early this morning.

Three to 5 inches of snow blanketed the Peoria area on Sunday, but only one to two additional inches were expected to fall by early Monday morning.

The storm deposited around 4 to 6 inches of snow in the area Bloomington-Normal area on Sunday and forced a number of school closings there today.
