Executive secretary's report: Johnson said he is working to put together a panel discussion on the future of newspapers. This would be held in downtown Chicago in early summer and would be a joint effort by NINA and NIU. More details will be available soon.

President's report: None.

Program committee: Nenni said the April 25 Spring Conference will feature Curt Chandler, senior lecturer for multimedia at Penn State University. Details forthcoming in the newsletter and online.

Education committee: Kubiak said the committee is looking at the 31 scholarship applications from high-school seniors and narrowing the list to 10 finalists. Final judging will by Friday, April 4, at 9 a.m. at the Beacon News in Aurora. Board members are encouraged to attend and help judge. The new Beacon News offices are located at 495 N. Commons Drive, Aurora.

Membership committee: No report.

Resource committee / communication coordinator: Killam said the spring newsletter should be done and printed by late next week; some of the material already is on the Digital Ink blog.

Old business: Nenni asked whether a replacement has been named for board member Josh Albrecht, who resigned in December. Boehlefeld is handling that, so action will be postponed until the next meeting.

New business: Killam said there was some confusion about payment to one of the high-school scholarship winners from last year. NINA had neglected to invoice the Northwest Herald for its contribution. This has been cleared up in the past week and the student received her money.

Slonoff asked that the board donate $1,000 toward the Dan Parmenter memorial scholarship. Parmenter was a Northern Star student killed in the Feb. 14 shootings at NIU. The board unaninmously approved this request (Solonoff / Etheredge).

Next meeting: Friday, June 20, in Campus Life Building, Room 100.

Meeting adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
