News in Brief from NIU
Membership, dues records: Starting Jan. 1, 2000,
NINA's dues collection and membership records will be handled by the NIU
Department of Communication.
Watch your mail early this spring for notice of your paper's membership
status. NINA's executive board also is examining the organization's dues
structure, in light of the changing landscape of newspaper ownership across
northern Illinois. If you have questions about dues or membership, please

Gannett exec visits: Gary Watson, President of Gannett
Corporation's Newspaper Division, visited his alma mater Nov. 18. Watson's
daylong stay at NIU included a lunch with several NINA board members.
One immediate result from Watson's visit was a $10,000 Gannett Foundation
award to help upgrade NIU's photojournalism lab facilities.
College press convention: Journalists from several
NINA-member newspapers have signed on to present sessions at the Illinois College Press Association's
annual convention Feb. 11-12 in Chicago. The convention also includes a
