What's the BIG idea?
The Rock Island Argus and Moline Dispatch have begun offering readers
an online, self-serve photo reprint service.
The service, called Instant Reprint, lets readers search or browse the digital
archives of work produced by the papers' staff photographers. Readers can
purchase traditional reprints for $15, or simply download digital photos
for $7.50.
Readers pay online by credit card. Prints are mailed within a week. Digital
files, in .jpg format and up to 1.5 megabytes in size, are sent immediately
via e-mail attachment.
The database contains many photos not published in the print newspapers
- particularly high-school sporting events and other events "that have
over the years generated a steady stream of requests for copies of 'the
photo I know you took but didn't use in the paper.' Instant Reprint allows
us to efficiently satisfy those requests, most of which previously have
been logistically impossible to fulfill," the site states.
